CAMBRIA STYLE

TRANSITIONAL & TIMELESS

Enduring designs, simple lines, clean spaces, and functional decor make for a home to grow with.

  • WRITTEN BY AMANDA LECKY

SCOTT MCGILLIVRAY IS BEST KNOWN FOR HIS REAL-ESTATE INVESTMENT SAVVY,

Showcased on Scott’s hit tv-show, Income Property. So it’s really not very surprising that when it comes to his own home, he describes his most favorite style as “transitional”—the hybrid of traditional and contemporary which is actually the most popular style in North America, according to The National Kitchen & Bath Association. He and his beautiful wife, Sabrina, really like a classic look, but nothing ornate: Think clean lines and all the modern conveniences. Turning practical, he notes: “When going with a timeless style—in the kitchen and throughout the house—is smart on two levels: The design won’t look dated in a few years, and it’s more likely to appeal to buyers if you decide to sell.” Of course, Scott’s design decisions aren’t only about return on investment. He and his wife are all about family. In fact, when they were looking for a new house, they decided to choose one that had many optional play areas that would work amazingly well for their daughters: with different play rooms, a large private lot, and their extended family was nearby. “We wanted a home with plenty of entertaining space where everyone could gather, and with lots of storage, so we can keep the toys out of the living room,” he says. Investing in real estate and his family: That’s Scott McGillivray’s style.
